Car Theft: Police Commend PRNigeria for Selfcensorship on Investigation
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Utako Police Station, Victor Godfrey, has commended PRNigeria for the professional manner they covered the recent case of car theft in the city.
He made the commendation after PRNigeria‘s correspondent provided intelligence to the police in pursuance of a case associated with car theft.
The police had arrested one Mallam Shuaibu Murtala, an orange seller at Pana Village in the Jabi Area of Abuja.
The arrest took place on Tuesday evening immediately after the case was reported to the police.
The arrest was prompted by the account of the owner of the car who sought the interventions of the police to investigate the matter,” he explained.

The owner of the car alleged that Murtala deceived him when he asked him to park in a particular spot from blocking his business.
Luckily the police got footage recorded by a CCTV of a shop owner which identified the thieves and car was subsequently recovered.
While PRNigeria was following the case from the beginning to the end it never publish the report on the case to avoid jeopardising the investigation.
While commending PRNigeria, the DPO said “I am happy that you (PRNigeria correspondent) come to my office to get more information. The image of the police would have been damaged if you had carried the initial story without verifying.”
He called on other media organisations to emulate the approach used by PRNigeria on selfcensorship for ensuring proper investigation.
