NSA, INEC preach against vote buying, sensational campaigns ahead of 2023 polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) have said they are re-strategising on handling the current state of insecurity, as well as tackling violent campaigns and attacks ahead of the 2023 general elections.

They gave the hint at the third quarterly meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), held yesterday at INEC headquarters in Abuja.

“We will continue to share information with the security agencies, and most importantly, work together to ensure that elections hold peacefully nationwide as scheduled,” Yakubu said.

He also said that beyond vote buying, there must also be decisive action against negative mobilisations, incitement and violence during the campaigns.

NSA warns on threats to 2023 polls

On his part, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, commended what he called ‘tireless efforts’ of all security agencies in maintaining peace and order during the ongoing electioneering campaigns across states.

The NSA, represented by Sanusi Galadima, however, noted that the violent dimensions of electioneering campaigns, signal potential threats to the smooth conduct of the forthcoming elections in February, 2023.
