2023: NSCDC Prepares Officers for Election Duties

The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has said personnel of the Corps are expected to understand the strategic dynamics of communication to preserve favourable conditions for free, fair, and credible elections.

Speaking at a 3-day workshop organised for State Commandants, Provost of Training Schools, and Public Relations Officers of the Corps, held at National Headquarters, Abuja, the Commandant said officers must be well equipped to get ready for the challenge of the upcoming elections.

In his remark, Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, who declared the workshop open, assured Nigerians that the security challenge in the country is currently under control adding that security agencies are working tirelessly to bring the lasting solution to security threats.

NSCDC Boss advised the personnel to use the opportunity to build a cordial relationship with other security agencies for a public-friendly partnership.

He said: “I charge all of you to come out of this workshop with strategies and blueprint that will bring about lasting peace and solutions to insecurity in the country via the NSCDC operations.

“Sensitivity is part of security architecture. This conference will further deepen knowledge of the handling of sensitive security information.

“The public has a right to know. However, there has to way of disseminating the information strategically as you to all participants.”

Audi, however noted that the operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested no fewer than 200 suspects, 100 jailed, destroyed 50 illegal refineries, and recovered 300 trucks within a year.

On his part, the President, Governing Council, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, Mukthar Zubairu Sirajo thanked the NSCDC boss for the laudable initiative at a very critical situation.

Mal. Mukthar noted Public relations goes beyond the capacity to speak the English language saying it’s a more deliberate effort and dynamic which is crucial to building knowledge for enhancing PR abilities to practice as a professional.

The spokesperson of NSCDC, Mr. Olusola Odumosu, in his welcome message, said the Audi-led administration believes that training and retraining of personnel would lead to optimum performance.
