NEMA Provides Routine Food Rations to Borno IDPs

Staff of National Emergency Management Agency North East zonal office led by the Zonal coordinator Muhammad Usman Aji have commenced the routine distribution of food items for Internally Displaced person’s in camps, host communities and liberated communities in Borno state as North East Development commission Prepares to Take over feeding of Internally Displaced person’s in Borno.

Each benefitting House hold is expected to recieve a ration consisting of Rice, Beans,Maize, vegetable oil, salt, Tomato paste and seasoning.

This is Following an approval granted by the Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mustapha Ahmed Habib as part of efforts of the Federal Governments to support the Borno state government in catering for the welfare of victims of insurgency. NEMA is also supporting and working with The Borno state government through the state Emergency Management Agency on ensuring a smooth transition of the feeding of the Internally Displaced Person’s which will be transferred to the North East Development commission.

The (NEDC) will take over from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) ,the responsibilities of routine food distribution to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) living in designated camps, host and liberated communities in Borno and Adamawa State.

This takeover of NEMA routine intervention by the NEDC will decouple the resources deployed by NEMA giving impetus to further deliver relief support to persons in need in the event of sudden onset disasters nationwide including in the North East region.

Before the formal takeover, NEMA will continue to provide the routine rations of stockpiled items and will continue providing other relief assistance to impacted communities in the North East region whenever sudden onset disasters hit.

NEMA has over the years since the escalation of the insurgency provided feeding to IDPs living in camps in Madinatu, Muna Garage, Customs House, Goni Kachallari and Shuwari IDP camps in Maiduguri Metropolis in addition to several other host and liberated communities in the state.

24,908 Households of IDPs in Borno have been benefitting from routine food rations by NEMA in Borno state.
