Orientation Programme: Prof. Gwarzo Cautions MAAUN Students Against Drug Abuse

The Founder and Chairman, Governing Council of the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, MAAUN, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has warned students of the university against indulging in drug abuse, and other related vices, warning that anyone caught risks outright dismissal.

He gave the warning during the 2022/2023 ‘Freshmen Orientation Program’ held for the newly-admitted students of MAAUN, at the School of Social and Management Sciences (SSMS).

Prof. Gwarzo warned that MAAUN has zero tolerance for drug abuse, hence the reason candidates seeking admission into the institution were subjected to drug test as a prerequisite for gaining admission into their school.

Gwarzo, who is the President of the Association of African Private Universities (AAPU), charged the fresh students to be of excellent moral character, so as to reflect the good image of the institution.

According to him, the students of MAAUN should not only pursue academic excellence, but should be more innovative in order to achieve their lofty dreams in life.

He recalled how he became successful at a relatively younger age, becoming a billionaire at the age of 25.

While urging the students to concentrate on their studies with all seriousness, Prof. Gwarzo advised them to shun bad companies in order not to get distracted from their studies.

Earlier in his welcome address, President of MAAUN Kano, Prof. ( Dr.) Mohammad Israr, urged the new students to live a responsible life and avoid anything that will tarnish the good image of their university.

“As students of MAAUN, you must uphold certain basic values. Some of these include; respect for the rights of others, differences and dignities of others; honesty and integrity in all dealings; commitment to the pursuit of excellence in your academic work; and accountability for your actions and for your conduct.

“I wish to congratulate each and every ‘fresher’ first on having secured your admission to this university and second for choosing Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria as your University of choice,” he said.

At the event was the Kano team of IMPR led by the Publisher of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, among other titles, Alhaji Shuaib Yushau.
