FCT Chief Judge Inaugurates Magistrate Court at Abuja Airport

Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Husseini Baba Yusuf, has commissioned a Magistrate Court at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, in Abuja.

The new court was built by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Capt. Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu, in an address of welcome, explained that one of their core responsibilities is to ensure that the aviation business is carried out in a safe and secure environment.

“And to this end, the locating of a Magistrate Court within the airport environment is very strategic to our operations.

“It is very auspicious that the Magistrate courts that we have been working so hard on locating at the airport since 2017, has become a reality just as the FAAN Act has been amended,” he said.

According to Capt. Yadudu, the new FAAN Act which is now known as the Federal Airports Authority Act 2022, has by virtue of section 39, given the Authority the power to, with the approval of the Aviation Minister, make Bye laws for the purpose of giving effect to the Act.

“This commissioning of the court today is an outcome of effective team work, and collaboration between the judiciary and the Airports Authority,” said the FAAN boss.

Justice Baba Yusuf, in his remark, observed that the presence of the Magistrate Court at the NAIA represents one of the civilized approaches of settling disputes in the aviation industry.

He disclosed that their High Court Division has approved the appointment of two Magistrates to man the court, assuring that they will be guided by the ethics of their legal profession as they deliver unbiased justice bereft of any primordial consideration.

The FCT High Court Chief Judge urged Capt. Yadudu and his management team at FAAN to provide all necessary support needed for the court to function effectively.
