Over Alleged Terrorism Financing, Emefiele Groups Plan Mother-of-All Protests
Plans by some support groups sympathetic to the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, to stage massive protests, have been uncovered.
There is palpable fear in the security circle that the protests, if not managed, may turn out to be violent.
Dependable sources privy to a meeting hosted by one Tochukwu Ohazuruike and Godwin Meliga at a highbrow hotel in Abuja on Monday night, disclosed that the protests are targeted at the Director General of Department of State Security Service (DSS), Alhaji Yusuf Bichi.
One of the sources said that their “Bichi Must Go” campaign protest would commence from Wednesday and through the weekend in major cities across the federation.
The protesters would present a picture of support for monetary policies under Emefiele and solidarity with President Muhammadu Buhari and his family.

The campaign, which is to be spearheaded by an unregistered Coalition of National Interest Defenders (CNID), has membership cutting across tribal and professional groups.
The source said: “The meeting agreed to contact Imo Ugochinyere Ikenga, a close ally of Emefiele who had helped to organise similar support protests in the past. Ikenga is also billed to be the central coordinator of the protests.
“Some of the support groups were active during organised rallies for the botched presidential aspiration of Emefiele under the platform of APC.”
It would be recalled that Abuja was on Monday rocked by protests staged by a coalition of groups that accused the DSS of instituting a court case against the CBN Governor over allegations of terrorism financing.
The Coalition held a press conference during which it called for the sack of the intelligence agency’s Director General, in a bid to show solidarity for Emefiele and his monetary policies at the CBN.
