Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Irabor Celebrates Falling Heroes in Combat Competition

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor has commended the effort of the veteran military personnels who have died in the line of duty.

The Armed Force Remembrance Day which usually marked 15th January was set aside in honour veterans of World War I and II, as well as the Nigeria Civil war.

The day is inline with formal end of the Nigerian Civil War following the surrender of the Biafran secessionists on January 15, 1970, the date was changed to mark the restoration of Nigeria’s unity.

Irabor gave the commendation today, while delivering his remarks at the Paintball Combat Competition in Abuja as part of the activities line up for the event.

The CDS commended personnel for a very good work that they have done, which has made the nation to set out the 15th of January of every year to honor them as the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.

He said: “the personnels have been committed to the service of this nation and the manner that the sovereignty of Nigeria has been sustained. Many of our forebears have paid the supreme price, those that are long gone and the ones that are still alive in other to let them know that their services are valued.

“The nation has set aside the 15th of January of every year to remember them and indeed honor them. So for us as an Armed forces, we ought them as a prelude to the event that will be taking place tomorrow.

“There are series of events that will indeed lead to the climax which is tomorrow, and the paintballing festival is one of the innovations.

Irabor reminded that the two days ago, he said, “we had Golf Tournament which was awesomely packaged to also honoured our veterans and I’m glad as they feel. You also saw that they were there in the numbers playing golf which is delighted to us.

“Tonight’s events is witness to also honour them to let them know that their services would indeed, never, ever be forgotten.

Irabor also commend the coordinator of paint balling Combat competition. He said: “I’m proud that we’ve been able to put this together in partnership with the Force Hunters who, of course, came up with the idea and suggested the partnership.

“We are looking forward that we do everything possible to partner with them for making this as an annual event as we remember our fallen heroes and of course the Armed Force as we celebrate this every January in the coming years.

While expressing his delight, He noted that Nigeria will of course will further modify this to suit the environment and I think that this location we have will not have been the Premier Edition of the partnership between the Armed Forces and Forest hunters as its very unique position to leverage in the expertise.
