2023: Nigerian Military, Other Security Agencies Clampdown on Election Offenders

Security agencies in the country have assured that their personnel will not hesitate to use ‘strong force’ against any element who attempt to breach public peace, during the general elections.

The assurance, PRNigeria gathered, is coming on the heels of the directive by President Muhammadu Buhari that the Service Chief and Heads of other security outfits should ensure safe polls for Nigerians.

Acting Director, Defence Information, DDI, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, stated this at a joint-press briefing of the security agencies, in Abuja.

The briefing was attended by the spokespersons of the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigerian Police, Peter Afunanya and Olumuyiwa Adejobi; together with that of the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, Air Commodore Wap Maigida, among others.

According to Gusau, the Nigerian military wishes to assure Nigerians of its readiness to secure the country, during the elections.

Gusau, said the Armed Forces of Nigeria is committed to partnering other security agencies, in order to maintain law and order, across the country.

On his part, Afunanya, assured that their DSS’ personnel will display neutrality, professionalism and good conduct, while discharging their responsibility during the elections.

He said, “We’ll continue to discharge our mandate of disseminating timely, actionable and proactive intelligence necessary for tactical, operational and strategic decisions even beyond the elections.

“We call on all citizens to be law abiding before, during and after the elections. Eligible voters are enjoined to cast their votes without any form of violence and also maintain peace after the elections”.
