NAPTIP Moves to End Human Trafficking, SGBV

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) yesterday launched its sensitization and anti-human trafficking and violence against persons vanguards in command day secondary school, Lungi Barracks, Abuja.

The Director-General of NAPTIP, Prof. Fatima Waziri-Azi, said so far, the agency had inaugurated over 80 schools with this marking its first military secondary school.

She explained that this was to sensitise students on all trafficking and violence against persons.

“With this approach, students will be more learned, understand trafficking patterns, be able to protect themselves and also spread the words to the people close to them, family, neighbours and friends.

“Trafficking is not a NAPTIP problem, but a society problem and we must work together to bring it to an end,” she said.

The representative of the Chief of Army Staff, Brigadier U.A Mammadi, said: “It’s our duty to make sure our children are protected.

“Human trafficking is a grave violation of human rights and children are most susceptible to be trafficked. This project couldn’t come at an earlier time as children now spend a majority of time on the internet were traffickers hide in plain sight”.
