Canadian University and Prof. Gwarzo’s Commitment to Nigeria’s Educational Development

By Adnan Mukhtar

Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, the founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria and Niger, is no doubt a humanitarian of note who has distinguished himself in the service to humanity.

According to Nelson Mandela, education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world.

Adamu Gwarzo, a journalist and linguist billionaire, has no doubt took the bold step of bringing change and development to his people over the years.

His huge investment in the education sector is a perfect definition of his sincere commitment to education.

At the young age of 35, he is the founder of the first English university in Niger Republic. At around 33, he was the founder and chairman of the committee for the protection of rights of journalists in Africa; going round the world, making Nigeria and his home state proud.

He has visited and worked with some heads of states in Africa, including the late chadian leader Idris Derby Itno, and that of Togo Gnansingbe Eyedema, and many more.

Not only he is the founder of universities, but he has also invested heavily in the studies of the less privileged through scholarship in which thousands of students are beneficiaries.

The Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation has drilled a thousand of boreholes, and also, supported a lot of communities in Kano and its neighbouring states.

Some of the beneficiaries of Adamu Gwarzo’s gestures are in their primes today. Some are medical doctors, nurses, lecturers, engineers, and medical laboratory scientists serving humanity in their various states

After he founded a university in Niger, he came back to his home state, Kano, where he established another university in the ancient city. The university started operation in 2022 with four faculties and more than ten courses.

Early this year alone, the university matriculated 1,022 students. One of the largest matriculation by a private university in this country.

The university is headed by Prof. Dr Mohammed Israr, an academic par excellence who was the Vice Chancellor of Mewar University before his appointment as President of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in 2022.

The young billionaire has made it a passion and patriotism of doing more. He went ahead to commence the establishment of another university, Franco-British International University, Kaduna.

The National University Commission has visited the site of the university for assessment as part of the requirement for operational licence.

I was thinking that the young academic would stop there. He has now acquire a large heactare of land in the Federal Capital Territory, Jabi to be precise, where he will be making one of the huge investment in education, the Canadian University of Nigeria in Abuja.

The National University Commission has since visited the proposed site of the university for assessment, and in the soonest, we are all hopeful that the licence of operation will be granted in no distance time.

May God Almighty guide and protect Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo in the service of humanity and his fatherland. We are proud of him!
