MACBAN Raises Alarm over Killing in Mangu Plateau

The national headquarters of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) is deeply worried with the upsurge of bloodletting in the plateau lately in which over 300 people had been killed over 500 people are still not accounted for.

The violence which is mostly in three districts of Mangu local Government in the State appears to have reared its head immediately after the 2023 general elections in which local militia in an orgy of violence attacked pastoralists settlements in Similang, Dunwel, Sabon Gari, Alogwon and Cha led to the killing of 11 people injuring 100 others and the rustling of over 45 cows.
In the Kumbun District in the same local government, 50 people were killed while in the Yittup and Daika District over 22 people were killed while 220 others were injured and 650 cattle rustled while 120 houses were burnt down.
Same violence was visit on some pastoral
communities in the Panyam District where 7 people were killed.
MACBAN is worried that this upsurge of violence and the ethnic cleansing of pastoral communities in the local government seemed to be well organized and orchestrated by ethics bigots who want to continue the ethnic wars in the plateau.
MACBAN therefore call on the security agencies to nip this dastardly act now and arrest and prosecute all those involved to serve as deterrence to others.
This who hold the agenda of inciting violence must be identified because MACBAN believe this ethnic cleansing agenda is not winnable nor sustainable in this time when efforts are being made to revive the nations economy and provide employment to millions of young educated people roaming the streets.
We call on the elected officials at both levels of government to be responsive to anything that will escalate insecurity in the country.
We also urge the pastoral communities in the state to exercise restraint in the face of this calamity that has befallen them.
