Nigerian Army, UN Sign Partnership on Counter-Terrorism
The Nigerian Army on Thursday renewed partnership with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) to to further strengthen counter-terrorism efforts in the country.
The partnership, PRNigeria gathered that is to further foster prevention of violent extremism and establish a robust response to combat this scourge.
United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism, Mr. Vladimir Voronkov made the move when he led his delegation to the Army headquarter in Abuja.
Voronkov said, “We’re here to deepen our partnership with the Nigerian Army for increased multilateral collaboration to support Africa in addressing an evolving terrorism threat in Africa.

“This is also to formalize our existing cooperation in prevention and countering terrorism threats for the purpose of building Nigeria’s military capacity in preventing, detect, investigate and prosecute terrorist offences”, he said.
On his part, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Taoreed Lagbaja said, the partnership mark an important milestone for Nigerian Army at this critical time when the country is taking a leading role in counter-terrorism efforts in the region.
Lagbaja said through various kinetic and non-kinetic operations, the Nigerian army has recorded large nu of surrender of Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists and they DDR programmes according to international practices.
He commended the United Nations Under-Secretary-General stride in the Counter-Terrorism efforts while assuring them of strengthen global, regional and national responses, through the promotion of dialogue and partnerships, and capacity-building activities.
