Lagos PR Practitioners Re-Elect NIPR Chairman, other EXCOs
…BHM Boss Calls for Reform in PR Education, Embracing Changing Communication Landscape
Mrs. Comfort Obot Nwankwo, the recently reelected Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), has unveiled an array of ambitious initiatives aimed at elevating the chapter’s profile, fostering stronger collaborations with public and private sector stakeholders, and pursuing strategic property acquisition in a prime location within Lagos.
In her acceptance speech, following the election of the new executive council at the 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Chapter, held on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, Mrs. Nwankwo expressed her confidence in the caliber of the chapter’s members and their unwavering support, highlighting that these initiatives are poised for success with their backing.
She underscored the executive council’s commitment to raising the standard of public relations practice in Lagos and called on members to unite in championing professional excellence within the state, including taking action against unlicensed PR practitioners.
Among the chapter’s upcoming priorities, Mrs. Nwankwo emphasized the revitalization of the monthly PR Clinic and the solicitation of members’ input on valuable topics for exploration.
The election of the executive council was conducted by the electoral committee, led by Barrister Jide Ologun, under the supervision of the national secretariat of NIPR, represented by Mr. Uzoma Onyegbadue, the institute’s Registrar.

Prior to the AGM, the Chapter hosted a Lecture with the theme, “Innovation and Disruption: Unlocking Opportunities for PR Practice,” featuring a keynote address by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BlackHouse Media (BHM), Mr. Ayeni Adekunle.
Adekunle’s keynote address emphasized the imperative of innovation in the field of public relations. He challenged industry professionals to adapt to the evolving communication landscape, marked by rapid technological advancements and changing generational behaviors. Adekunle urged PR practitioners to embrace innovation, reevaluate their PR practices, and consider the societal shifts that impact their work.
The CEO stressed the pivotal role of PR in shaping public perception and building trust, particularly in the context of Nigeria’s global reputation. He called on PR practitioners to redefine their profession by integrating modern technology, international relations, diplomacy, and ethical communication.
Adekunle highlighted the urgency of reforming PR education, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning and development to equip talent for the dynamic industry. He encouraged collaboration within the PR community to drive necessary changes collectively.
