BUK’s First Female Professor of Mass Communication Honored by Alumni, Scholars

Professor Hajara Umar Sanda, the first female professor of mass communication at Bayero University, Kano, was honored by alumni and scholars of the department on Saturday.

The event, which took place at the department’s conference hall, was attended by many lecturers, who eulogized Professor Hajara’s exceptional qualities, describing her as a diligent, dedicated, and no-nonsense scholar who gives attention to details without fear or favor.

Dr. Abubakar Shehu Minjibir, a senior lecturer and chairman of the BUK Mass Communication Alumni Association (BUMKAA), lauded Professor Hajara’s academic milestone, saying that she has done the university proud through her commitment to details, humane and humble disposition to all activities.

In his remark, the HOD of Information and Media Studies, Dr. Nura Ibrahim, said the department is privileged to have Professor Hajara in its fold, adding that she is a rare gem who performed excellently while she was appointed as Deputy Dean.

While commending her academic feats, Dr. Hadiza Ibrahim confessed that she was personally fond of Professor Hajara and she was “scared” whenever they had to work in the same committee because of her commitments and dedication to getting things promptly.

Other speakers at the event, including Professor Usman Abubakar, Dr. Haruna Ismail, and Dr. Siraj Ibrahim, lauded Professor Hajara’s academic feat and wished her more successes in her academic journey.

In a goodwill message sent via video, Dr. Bala Muhammad, a former columnist with Daily Trust, described Professor Hajara as a thoroughly bred academic who has made the faculty proud. He added that, being her student as an undergraduate, she has become a member of his family due to her diligence and dedication to duty.
