Insecurity: Police Urge ‘Security Profiling’ of Prospective Domestic Staff
Amid the rampant speculations of genitals disappearances, as well as other security threats in the nation’s capital, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has called for proper security profiling of persons to be employed as domestic staff.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba made the call during a public sensitization campaign with Estate Managers and other stakeholders in Abuja.
Represented by the ACP Olabisi Davis, the Metro Area Police commander, Garba advised home owners who intend to employ domestic and security staff to allow the police have a thorough investigation of the staff, before employing them.
“Once property owners or employers identify potential employees, including drivers, security guards and househelps, the police should be contacted for proper investigation before finalising the recruitment process.

“The police have facilities for fingers and thumb prints as well as pictures that will be taken and filed with the identities of their guarantors after which investigations and background checks will be carried out. The employer will thereafter be notified if the person is fit or otherwise for the job.
“The police security profiling will ensure prompt investigation within shortest period using the state of the art technology in case of any report of unwholesome behaviour.
“Recently, we had a case of a domestic staff who stole in SunCity and came to LifeCamp to get another job. Surprisingly, he left the job of N40,000 for a job of N30,000 because he stole and was on a wanted list, through profiling, we were able to get him.
“Some cases of abductions, car theft, robbery and missing valuable were carried in connivance with insiders entrusted with our lives,” he said.
In order to mitigate criminal tendencies, the FCT Police Chief equally advised employers not to take undue advantage of their domestic staff through exploitation, but ensure prompt payment of their salaries.
