Army charges personnel on adhering to ethics, core values

Army Headquarters Garrison on Wednesday, commenced sensitisation of troops on core values and ethics towards fusing them with the spirit of readiness, duty to country, capacity and leadership.

The Commander, AHQ Garrison, Maj.-Gen. Koko Isoni, said the 2-Day Sensitisation Workshop on Upholding the Ethics and Traditions of the Nigerian Army and Promoting Social Responsibility amongst Troops, was crucial to army operations and in dealing with diverse security threats.

Isoni, represented by the Chief of Staff, Brig.-Gen. Suleiman Tilawan, added that the workshop was in line with the desire of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) to transform the army to effectively perform its constitutional roles.

He said that the workshop was in collaboration with relevant security agencies including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to enlighten troops on their social responsibilities.

“This is in line with the COAS command philosophy which is “to transform the Nigerian army into a well-trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment”.

“This workshop is directed towards fusing troops with the spirit of readiness, duty to country, capacity and leadership at all times,” he added.

Isoni said that having a common understanding of where they are as an army, what is expected of them and where they are heading to, was crucial in defeating threats effectively.

He added that the workshop would help to shape their understanding of the Armed Forces Act, their right to redress, and the negative effects of illicit drug consumption among others.

The Garrison Commander said that seasoned academics and  senior officers with vast experiences in command and leadership were selected to deliver lectures during the workshop.
