Defence Chief Assure Peaceful Guber Polls in Kogi, Imo, Bayelsa

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has assured Nigerians that the military is fully prepared to ensure peaceful governorship elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa States on November 11, 2023.

General Musa gave the assurance on Tuesday when he hosted the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.

He said that the military had put in place all necessary measures to prevent any form of violence or intimidation during the elections.

Musa appealed to all stakeholders to cooperate with the military to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free and fair atmosphere.

“We don’t want any violence. I want to appeal to all stakeholders that it does nobody any good if anybody is killed because we have to go and vote. So it is important that we all put hands on deck.

“We will make sure that the elections are free and they are peaceful so that the results can also bring out what people want,” Gen. Musa stated.

He also disclosed that the federal government had allocated special funds for the treatment of soldiers wounded at the various theatres of operations across the federation.

The Defence Chief added that the improved funding would boost the morale of troops on the frontline.

He also urged the minister to sign the harmonized terms and conditions of service for military personnel.

In his response, the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, commended the military for its efforts in combating insecurity in the country.

Badaru said that the government was committed to providing the military with all the necessary resources to carry out its duties effectively.

He also assured the military that the government would continue to improve the welfare of troops.
