Police Nab Car Theft Gang, Recover 4 Stolen Vehicles in Sokoto

The Police in Zone 10, Sokoto State, have arrested a car theft gang and recovered four stolen vehicles from them.

The gang was notorious for stealing cars from car parks, driveways, and other public places.

Mr bubakar Daura, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 10, announced this achievement in a statement released to the media by ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Sokoto Police Command, on Wednesday.

He said the police received a tip-off about the gang’s activities and launched an investigation. After several weeks of surveillance, the police raided the gang’s hideout and arrested its members.

The police also recovered four stolen vehicles from the hideout. The vehicles were a Toyota Camry, a Honda Accord, a Hyundai Sonata, and a Kia Optima.

Daura was quoted as saying that the team had successfully apprehended the three members of the suspected gang that specialised in car theft.

“This operation was conducted with the active cooperation of citizens from Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara states, effectively ending the reign of terror caused by the gang.

“The suspects’ syndicate had been actively involved in stealing various car models within the three states, subsequently disposing of them both within and outside Nigeria’s neighboring countries,” he said.

The AIG expressed his gratitude for the credible intelligence provided by the zonal command, which pinpointed the gang’s hideout in an incomplete building in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi.

Duara added, “During the subsequent interrogations and discreet investigations, one Muttaka Muhammad, a 29-year-old resident of Zauro town, was apprehended.

“Furthermore, this operation led to the recovery of a total of four stolen vehicles in Kebbi and Sokoto, resulting in the arrests of two additional gang members.

“The other detainees were identified as Kasimu Muhammad, 33, from Dukki area, and Haliru Musa, 35, from Baiti Area, both hailing from Kebbi State.”

He urged individuals who may have lost vehicles to car theft to come forward with proof of ownership for verification and retrieval at the zone 10 office.

Daura listed the recovered vahicles to include; Toyota Corolla LE, Ash in color, with Chassis No. 211BR32E74124 and Toyota Corolla LE, Ash in color, with Chassis No. WVBR82F94Z649604

Others are::Toyota Corolla Fish eye, Blue in color, with Chassis No. JT15EEB103103294 and Toyota Corolla Fish eye, Blue in color, with Chassis No. JT152EEB103134442.

He also emphasised the importance of public vigilance and security consciousness in their respective areas while continuing to collaborate with the police and other security agencies, highlighting that security is a collective responsibility.

The AIG added that the suspects were currently under investigation and would be charged to Court as soon as possible.
