Yemi-Esan Inaugurates Committee for FISH Cooperative Society

The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, has inaugurated a nine (9) man Interim Management Committee (IMC), for the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH), Co-operative Society.
The inauguration was done by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office (SWO) in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), Mr. Mahmud Adam Kambari, on Tuesday 31st October, 2023.
Dr. Folasade Yemi Esan noted that the FISH programme was originally designed to operate through a FISH Co-operative Society as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for accelerated provision of affordable housing for Federal Civil Servants through an integrated strategy involving group land allocation, inter-ministerial collaborations and provision of infrastructure and site services.
She also stated that the inauguration of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), marks a significant step towards realising the objective of the FISH Co-operative Society, which includes, to harness the benefits of an ideal Housing Co-operative as a platform to access funds, lands, and pool resources together for housing development, to enable Civil Servants acquire houses at affordable rates.
Members of the committee were drawn from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), with representation cutting across the six geo-political zones. The IMC members are expected to bring on board their experience, skills, and expertise in managing the affairs of the Cooperative Society for the next of one year.
The committee is saddled with the task of mobilizing membership, putting in place machinery for the smooth operation of the co-operative society and conducting election for a substantive management committee in line with the approved By-Laws and Operational Guidelines.
Dr. Yemi-Esan, further encouraged members of the committee to serve the cooperative society with diligence, responsibility, and a strong commitment to achieving results. “I urge you to approach your roles with unwavering integrity and dedication” She added.
Also speaking at the event, the Director FISH, Mrs Uchenna Obi in her opening remarks noted that the IMC inauguration was birthed by the recommendation of an earlier committee constituted by the Head of Service for the operationalization of the FISH Co-operative Society. “It is our fervent hope that the FISH Co-operative will become a veritable platform in advancing the objectives of the FISH Programme and a catalyst for the OHCSF in providing affordable housing to Civil Servants” She added.

The Chairman of the Committee Mr. Kelvin Nwachukwu, assured the Head of Service that the constituted committee under his watch will deliver on the terms of reference.
The Chairman ASCSN/JUNC in OHCSF Comrade Slyvester Abah, in his goodwill message applauded the Head of Service for such a laudable initiative, while admonishing the IMC members to be transparent and committed in delivering on the task ahead of them.
The inauguration was also witnessed by the representatives of the Executive Secretary, Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board, President of Abuja Co-operative Federation, Mr. Emmanuel Atama, representative of the Director of Co-operative Federal Capital Territory, Mr Emmanuel Abenu.
