NIPR Boss Urges PR Practitioners to Bring Partnership Ideas for Institutional Growth

The President of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, has called on fellow practitioners to take advantage of the opportunities available in the Institute for robust partnerships that can move the profession forward.

Dr Neliaku noted that the Institute is open to ideas that are geared towards executing projects and programmes that will benefit all parties.

The call came on Friday, during the landmark signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Institute and Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) – publishers of PRNigeria, Spokespersons’ Digest and Economic Confidential – at the NIPR headquarters in Abuja.

According to Dr. Neliaku, the partnership is an opportunity for the NIPR to demonstrate its capacity to support members to succeed in their legitimate aspirations.

He called on members to emulate the example of PRNigeria publisher, Mallam Yushau Shuaib, who proposed a robust partnership between his firm and the Institute for the hosting of an enlarged version of the annual Spokespersons’ Communication Awards (SCA).

“Our arms are open and our doors are always open for colleagues to come forward with ideas like this that will benefit the members who own the ideas, the Institute and also the profession in general.

“This is why we ventured into development communication and we want to train our fellow practitioners to buy into the trend of development communication in the interest of our nation,” he said.

The NIPR recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Development Specs Academy (DSA), to kick-start a REBIRTH Nigeria programme. The partnership is part of the strategic efforts towards achieving the New Dawn agenda of its current leadership.

The REBIRTH Nigeria initiative was deeply thought out with rich contents to reposition the country, from a private sector direction.

The REBIRTH is an acronym, with a focus on national transformation through Re-inventing the Essence, Beauty, Integrity, Resourceful, Tradition and Heritage of the country.

During the signing of the MOU, the NIPR boss expressed hope that this private sector approach will bring the needed transformation to the citizenship of Nigeria. “There is a need to re-enlighten our citizens on matters of nationhood and national development. Also, it is important to initiate a campaign that will draw the attention of both government and citizens on the need to begin to patronise made-in-Nigeria goods to rebuild our economy”.

In his remarks, the Executive Director of the Development Specs Academy, Prof. Okey Ikechukwu said the academy, which is a human capital development platform has been at the forefront in driving the campaign for nation-building.

According to him, the Academy has consistently targeted the youth community in a bid to create the right quality of humans that will help in building a new society.

Prof. Ikechukwu who is a fellow of NIPR said he was motivated into seeking the partnership with the Institute after last NIPR Citizens Summit where it demonstrated to have the right structure, nationwide presence and disposition for such important Programme of national character and significance.

Similarly, NIPR also signed a consultancy agreement with Enentis Communications Limited for the marketing of advertising opportunities in the second edition of NIPR Register of members which is due for publication in the second quarter of 2024. The NIPR Register of members which will come in hard and online copies as a reference document and authorised compendium of licenced Public Relations practitioners in Nigeria.
