Rukayat Shittu Wins, as A’Court Upturn Tribunal Judgement

The youngest lawmaker in Nigeria and member representing Owode Onire state constituency, Hon Rukayat Shittu has defeated the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the Court of Appeal.

The sensational lawmaker, who is the candidate of ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) won her election in March, 2023 but her victory was challenged at the election tribunal by the candidate of opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Magaji Abdullahi.

The election tribunal in ilorin, the Kwara State capital cancelled election results in 5 polling units and ordered rerun in the 5 units, a decision that was challenged by Rukayat at the Appeal Court.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja today, upturned the decision of the lower court, declaring that Rukayat Shittu was legitimately elected as the representative of Owode Onire state constituency.

The Court of Appeal judgement dismissed PDP’s claim as lacking in substance, upholding INEC’s declaration of Rukayat Shittu as the validly elected lawmaker.
