Innovator of Drone, IED Detector, Northern Youth Bag 30 Under 30 Arewa Star Awards
Shamsudeen Jibril, a Kaduna based prodigy has won the Innovator of the year award for his expertise in developing handcrafted drones, IED detectors, and robotics at the just concluded 30 Under 30 Arewa Stars Award and Conference.
Mr Jibril is a passionate innovator in the realms of creativity and technology with a mission to provide solutions across various sectors, including security, agriculture, and logistics.
The 2023 award ceremony, which took place at the Tahir Guest Palace Kano City on Friday night, was organised by the Arewa Agenda, a publication of Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) – publishers of PRNigeria and other titles in collaboration with Daily Nigerian.
The Chairman of the occassion, Mallam Sule Yau Sule said that the event is timely especially considering the fact that there are many young unsung heroes who are making remarkable impact in various fields of human endeavors across Northern Nigeria.
“This is in addition to the fact that we have elders who are also inspiring the yiurg to excel. We can’t be here forever and so we need to groom the younger generation to take over from us,” he emphasised.
Also speaking, the Chief Host and Managing Director of IMPR, Yushau A. Shuaib said that the essence of the event was to honour young, talented, and productive professionals and individuals who are making positive impacts in the country and beyond.
“Arewa is occasionally underrated and underreported on many giant strides undertaking by young minds. This is, therefore, to recognize outstanding contributions and promote excellent performances by these roles models from this part of the world,” he said.
Mr. Shuaib also decried the lack of supports by Northern elites to the media industry and noble initiatives and area leaders to invest in such productive sector for promoting excellence and professionalism.

In his remarks, the PRNigeria’s Head of Investigation and chairman of the organising committee, Mohammed Dahiru Lawal, told the audience that the essence of the ceremony was not only to honour greatness and inspire Arewa youths but also to create a point of convergence for potential mentors and mentees of northern origin so that more young people can find their ways to the top.
The event also witnessed a presentation by Ismail Bello, the founder of Youth Entrepreneurship Support Hub (YES-Hub), who spoke on accessing global opportunities.
Additionally, Dr Musa Sufi of Sufi Innovation and Development Solutions (SIDES) spoke on Innovation and Development while a team of panelist moderated by Khadija Bawas wowed the audience on the theme; leveraging technology for innovation and sustainable development, all focused on how to elevate the thinking capacity and living standard of the the Arewa youth.
Other award winners at the event included Pharm Aminu Hashidu Danjuma, who bagged the Public Health Award for changing the game in the pharmaceutical world through his Getwell Innovations and Khadijah Aliyu Ammani who won the humanitarian category for raising funds and directing them towards essential medical care for vulnerable children through her initiative.
Rabiu Aliyu won the Fintech category due to his multi platform invention such as Pruber – a mobile and web based application built to help small and large-scale businesses to manage and monitor their products, sales, and customers, Lenos – a YouTube monetization checker which works by analyzing the source code of the YouTube channel page and reveals whether a YouTube channel is monetized, Phopis – a Resource registry and business management system built to support individuals and businesses to manage their businesses, among others.
Other winners include Mathias Manch Pwol on Agriculture, Maimuna Gomber Abubakar (Mommee Gombe) on acting, Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim on Media, Sunnah Tech Lab on ICT, Aliyu Idris on Education, Zainab Yau on Politics, Amina Aliyu on Event Mangement, Bitrus Sale on Hotelier, and Huzaifa Jamil Kofar Mata on Social Activism.
Other winners are, Maryam Abbas Bichi as Social Media Influencer, Muhammad Mukhtar Garba on Real Estate, Muhammad Umar – 16 year old SS1 Student on Fashion and Design, Ahmad Umar Aliyu on Engineering, Hajiya Maryam Mohammad Korau on Entrepreneurship, Josiah Innocent on Entertainment, Jamila Farouk Jamo (Jamo Photography) on Photography, and Abdulwahab Aminu as sports personality of the year.
In the Honorary award category, Abnur Entertainment’s Movie, “Manyan Mata” was honored as outstanding social impact movie of the year, Kano State Commissioner of Police CP Muhammad Usaini Gumel was given an Heroes award for tackling phone snatching in the state and Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa the Director General Media and Publicity Kano State Government House was honored as Political Communicator of the year.
