Defence Minister to New Navy Senior Officers: Protect our Maritime Domains

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Muhammad Bello Matawale, has charged the newly decorated Nigerian Navy Officers with responsibility for safeguarding the nation’s maritime security.

Dr. Matawale spoke today at the decoration ceremony for the new officers, in Abuja, while highlighting the entrusted responsibility Nigerians placed in the hands of the personnel for safeguarding the nation.

Addressing the officers, the Minister emphasized that their promotion symbolizes not just personal achievement but also signifies recognition of their exceptional leadership, urging them to dedicate themselves further to service.

He reaffirmed the government’s unwavering support for the Navy, underlining President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which prioritizes fleet modernization, capacity building, and strategic planning.

Matawale commended the Navy Chief for instilling a culture of excellence and professionalism within the service to enhance operational readiness and gain international respect.

While encouraging the officers, he urged them to continue leading with integrity, humility, and a strong sense of duty, assuring them of adequate resources and equipment to ensure success in securing the maritime environment.

“This promotion signifies renewed commitment. Embrace the forthcoming challenges with courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication. As guardians of our maritime frontiers, the nation relies on your steadfastness for a safer and more prosperous future,” he added.

Speaking, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, highlighted the roles the officers played in contributing to the nation’s security.

Ogalla stressed the rigorous selection process and the paramount importance of meeting the high standards expected of flag officers. He commended their dedication and loyalty while urging them to uphold their integrity and set an example through their leadership.

He however cautioned against corruption and collusion with criminals, emphasizing the Navy’s zero-tolerance policy towards such acts.

PRNigeria had reported that the service promoted 30 Commodores to the rank of Rear Admiral.
