NDU, Army War College Partner on Training

The President of the United States National Defence University (NDU) Lieutenant General Michael Plahn paid a courtesy visit to the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN), Asokoro, Abuja on Wednesday, 14th February 2024. During the visit, the, the President delivered insightful remarks, emphasizing the importance of strategic training and education for military leaders.

He enjoined AWCN to adopt a training approach that prepares military leaders for certainty while simultaneously educating them for uncertainty. He emphasized the significance of self-development, military exercises, and comprehensive training and education programs in equipping leaders to navigate unpredictable situations effectively. The President’s emphasis on strategic training resonated with the core mission of AWCN, which is “To produce well trained, educated and inspired operational level leaders for the Nigerian Army” capable of addressing the evolving and often unpredictable nature of security threats in the country.

In response to the President’s remarks, the Commandant AWCN Major General Ishaya Buba Maina, expressed his gratitude for the existing collaborations between the AWCN and NDU. He acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the US NDU in enhancing the knowledge and capabilities of participants in various AWCN programs. He further solicited for more collaborations and deepening engagements between the institutions.

During the visit, Colonel AM Dikko, a member of faculty of AWCN treated the visitors to a detailed brief on the College activities particularly highlighting the partnership between both institutions. Present at the event were the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies AWCN, Brigadier General AM Umar, Directors, Faculty Members, and other College Staff. The event was marked by a tour of AWCN facilities, a presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs, symbolizing the strengthening ties between AWCN and the US National Defence University.
