EFCC Hones Officers’ PR Skills for Public Affairs
In line with the dreams of the Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, to constantly hone the public relations skills of officers of the Commission, the first quarter of the Director’s Lecture Series for Public Affairs Department held on Friday, April 5th, 2024, at the PAD Conference Room, Abuja.

The event’s guest lecturer was Yushau A. Shuaib, the Managing Director of Image Merchants Promotion Limited, the publishers of PRNigeria, Economic Confidential, and Spokespersons Digest.

Speaking on “Effective Public Relations Strategies for Law Enforcement Agencies,” Shuaib pointed out that security services’ mandates in preventing and detecting crimes could be achieved through effective public awareness.

“While there are several PR tools for sustaining awareness campaigns, law enforcement agencies should use press releases, media briefings, stakeholders’ engagement, and in-house publications to educate and sensitize the citizenry.

While commending EFCC for its outstanding strategic PR efforts and active social media engagements, Shuaib pointed out that the anti-corruption agency required more resources and investment in digital platforms that seem to be taking over from the conventional media.

Shuaib, an author of a series of books on PR and Crisis Communication, emphasised the necessity of a social media policy for law enforcement agencies to provide legal guidelines for promoting online good conduct, protecting sensitive information, ensuring transparent disclosure, and ensuring account ownership.

The Acting Director of Public Affairs of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, appreciated the guest speaker’s finding time to impart knowledge to upcoming public relations practitioners of the Commission.
