Customs to Help VON Raise Public Awareness on Economic Policies

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on Wednesday, 17 April 2024, paid a courtesy visit to the Voice of Nigeria (VON) Corporate Headquarters.

The CGC, who was warmly welcomed by the Director General of Voice of Nigeria, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndache, acknowledged his achievements, stating, “The comments about you are that of joy and your achievements are highly commendable. You’ve reached out to several and necessary stakeholders, and you have partnered with many media organisations. The reason for welcoming you to our corporate headquarters personally is to thank you for your continuous and immense support to VON.”

He also appreciated the CGC’s commitment, asserting, “Your pedigree and integrity preceded you before becoming Comptroller-General.”

“You are an astute and brilliant Public Relations expert, a leader per excellence with adequate and vibrant experience since the days you were Vice President and the Vice Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations.”

He assured the CGC of his continuous support to the coverage of NCS activities. The DG further instructed reporters to prioritise every report of the Nigeria Customs Service in all eight languages aired by VON.

While reacting to the DG’s opening remarks, the CGC shared his perspectives on open governance and emphasised the importance of aligning with the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to promote economic recovery, political stability, and national security.

He expressed his commitment to transparency, saying, “We are in a new administration investing in renewed hope for economic recovery, political stability, and the security of the nation.”

The CGC acknowledged the role of Voice of Nigeria in communicating government policies to the citizens and pledged the Nigeria Customs Service’s support for VON in raising public awareness.

“We have a strategic economic team making stringent and diverse economic policies that will foster economic growth for the nation. VON is very strategic in communicating these policies to the citizens,” he said.

The CGC also mentioned the recent inauguration of the National Single Window project steering committee at the Presidential Villa, involving major agencies, and highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnership.

“Collaboration and partnership is a continuous process,” he said. “We will give exposure to your reporters on all Customs procedures so that they can have the necessary and adequate knowledge regarding our policies.”

Bashir Adeniyi, however, thanked the Director General for the warm reception and expressed his delight in the opportunity to collaborate with VON to assist in using VON platforms to reach out to border communities and keep them abreast of NCS policies and activities.
