NPRW: How we Chose Ogun for NIPR Week – Dr Neliaku

The National President of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr Ike Neliaku, has disclosed that Ogun State emerged as official host of the first NIPR Week from a competitive selection process, with several states vying for the honour.

Speaking at the NIPR Week in Abeokuta , Ogun State, on Tuesday, De Neliaku noted that the state’s rich history and crucial role in the evolution of Nigerian politics and journalism informed its choice.

“It is a state that has been at the forefront, leading in various capacities, and it is only fitting that it leads once again in hosting this landmark event,” he said .

Dr. Neliaku spoke on the multifaceted nature of PR, extending beyond traditional boundaries to encompass all forms of communication, including singing. “Singing, much like any form of communication, is an integral part of public relations. It’s about conveying a message, evoking emotions, and fostering connections,” he explained.

The NIPR President further emphasised the centrality of reputation, which he described as the “core asset of every human being.”

He argued that managing one’s reputation is not merely a management function but a leadership one, critical to personal and professional advancement.

“As we embark on this week-long celebration and introspection of our profession, let us remember that public relations is the key to unlocking potential, bridging gaps, and building a legacy. Without a carefully managed reputation, one cannot hope to achieve lasting success,” Dr. Neliaku stated.
