    US Peace Institute Hosts Gov Yusuf, Other Northern Governors for Peace Building Symposium

    Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has arrived in the United States to participate in a high-powered symposium organized by the US Institute of Peace. The three-day conference brings together governors from Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna, Niger, Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, and Plateau states. Its primary focus is addressing insecurity in Northern Nigeria and exploring effective strategies for mitigating this challenge.

    A statement by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director General
    Media and Publicity Kano Government House said during the intensive executive engagement, the participating governors will gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of security threats in their respective states. The symposium will delve into the socioeconomic dimensions of these challenges and identify near-term opportunities to enhance stability in Northern Nigeria.

    The US Institute of Peace aims to broaden knowledge on conflict prevention in the region. Non-violent strategies for engaging armed groups will be explored as alternatives for conflict resolution. Dr. Joseph Sany, Vice President of the Africa Center for the US Institute of Peace, will anchor the strategic engagement. The symposium also emphasizes policy coordination and effective management of peace and stability in Nigeria.

    This event, which concludes on April 25, 2024, reflects the ongoing efforts of northern governors, particularly those from the northwest, to collectively shape a regional development agenda.
