APRA President Welcomes African PR Specialists to 35th Annual Conference in Abidjan

The President of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), Yomi Badejo-Okusanya, welcomed delegates to the 35th Annual Conference of APRA, taking place in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

In his welcome address, Badejo-Okusanya emphasized the importance of bridging the communication gap across Africa, highlighting the association’s mission to promote excellence in public relations and foster collaboration among professionals.

The conference theme, “One Africa, One Voice: Bridging Africa’s Communication Divide,” resonates with APRA’s mission to integrate Francophone Africa and break down language barriers. The choice of Cote d’Ivoire as the host country was strategic, recognizing the country’s rich cultural heritage and location.

Badejo-Okusanya highlighted Africa’s growing population, expanding communication landscape, and potential for growth, emphasizing the need for effective communication to unlock the continent’s potential.

According to him, with over 1.3 billion people and a growing middle class, Africa is ripe for growth, and effective communication is key to unlocking its potential.

The APRA President encouraged delegates to embrace the spirit of unity and collaboration, make meaningful connections, and renew their commitment to the shared vision of amplifying Africa’s voice.

He said the conference aims to provide a platform for professionals to address unique challenges and opportunities in Africa, including language barriers, economic challenges, limited access to education and technology, political instability, inadequate healthcare systems, and environmental issues. Throughout the conference, delegates will engage in thought-provoking discussions, share best practices, and explore innovative solutions to bridge the communication divide.
