Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe Assumes office as NCCC Boss

The newly appointed Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC), Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe has assumed office in Abuja, excited with the team of workers on ground .

Dr Maduekwe describes as rewarding and insightful her first day in office having conversations with the Council’s “passionate and dedicated staff” concerning new pathways to supporting the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy
on Climate Action in actualizing Nigeria’s green economic and industrial ambitions in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “I am amazed at the bright minds present here. The leadership team and staff are committed to driving and implementing the sweeping reforms we intend to execute as quickly and effectively as possible”, she said.
A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Ajuri Ngelale on Monday said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a new team of officials to advance climate action for Nigeria.

He said the President has approved the appointment of Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Shelleng, as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Finance & Stakeholder Engagement, Office of the President.
He is seconded to the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) Secretariat, where he will handle all matters related to Climate Finance & Stakeholder/Donor Relations.

President has also approved that Mr. Shelleng is to assume the position of Secretary of the Intergovernmental Committee on National Carbon Market Activation Plan (NCMAP) and serve as a member of the Presidential Committee on Climate Action and Green Economic Solutions, as well as the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.

Similarly, the President has also approved the appointment of Mr. Olamide Fagbuji, as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Climate Technology and Operations, Office of the President. He is seconded to the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) Secretariat, where he will oversee the digitalization of a new open procurement process and cross-departmental procedural optimization initiative.

The statement stressed that the President expects the new appointees to bring their expertise and discipline to bear in these very important assignments in pursuance of the nation’s aspiration on green industrial development and climate action for sustainable growth and national prosperity.

Both Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi Shelleng and Mr Olamide Fafbuji were also present at the meeting with staff of the Council
