National Security: NARC, DSA Lead Conversation on Emerging Asymmetrical Challenges

The Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) and Development Specs Academy (DSA) have set a date for a Round Table to address asymmetrical national security challenges.

The event, scheduled for June 24-25, 2024, is aimed at bringing together stakeholders to discuss the role of the army and national development in addressing these challenges.

According to Prof. Okey Ikechukwu, the Chief Executive Officer of DSA and the spokesperson for the project, the RoundTable seeks to promote public understanding of the Nigerian Army’s efforts in protecting and securing the nation. It also aims to encourage a “whole of society approach” to national security challenges, recognising that security is not solely the responsibility of the military.

He disclosed that the event has received extensive support from various strategic partners, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Voice of Nigeria (VON), News agency of Nigerian (NAN), the Institute for Strategic Development Communication (ISDEVCOM), Nnamdi Azikiwe Business School (IBS), and the Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies (IPSDS).

Professor Ikechukwu underscored the RoundTable’s commitment to producing practical outcomes, such as implementable action points on pressing security issues, dispelling misinformation, and promoting national interest narratives without propaganda.

The event is expected to showcase facts-based reviews of current security challenges, present holistic perspectives on national security, and establish informed linkages between political decisions, operating environments, and emerging security challenges.

The event will address emerging national security challenges and misrepresentations about the military’s role and provide a facts-based review of current security challenges and their achievements.

PRNigeria gathered that the RoundTable would emphasise the specific and general roles of the military in the national security architecture, addressing deliberate misrepresentations of soldiers and the army’s efforts.

It will also explore the linkages between political decisions, operating environments, and emerging security challenges across the country. By sharing their experiences and achievements, the military aims to provide a balanced view of the nation’s security challenges and their efforts to address them.

The event is expected to promote a better understanding of the military’s role in national security and address misconceptions about their operations. With the Chatham House Rules, participants can engage in open and frank discussions, fostering a more informed and nuanced understanding of Nigeria’s complex security issues.

Journalists and stakeholders are invited to attend the RoundTable, which promises to be a valuable platform for discussing national security and the role of the Nigerian Army.
