Hajj 2024: Saudi Records 1.3M Medical Services, 0.07% Mortalities and No Epidemics
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Health, Mr. Fahd Al-Jalajel, has announced the successful execution of health management efforts during the 2024 Hajj season.
The Minister made the announcement on in Riyadh during a media interview. According to him, “the health system provided over 465,000 specialized treatment services, including 141,000 to unauthorized pilgrims.”
Mr AI- Jalajel said that despite the high temperatures, there were no reported cases of epidemics or widespread diseases, attributing the success to coordinated efforts between health and security forces.
However, 1,301 mortalities were recorded, mostly among unauthorized pilgrims who walked long distances without adequate shelter or comfort.

The minister extended condolences to the families, saying, “May God forgive and have mercy on the deceased…Our heartfelt condolences go to their families.” He highlighted the significant efforts made to raise awareness on heat stress and preventive measures, adding that the Kingdom provided free health services to pilgrims, including 1.3 million preventive services, open-heart surgeries, and emergency care.
“The healthcare system addressed numerous cases of heat stress, with some individuals still under care. Measures to combat heat stress included developing devices for rapid rescue of affected individuals.” He added.
