Police Officer Assaulted in Lagos, IGP Vows to Protect Officers’ Rights
The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the assault on one of its officers in Lagos State on Saturday, June 22, 2024. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has expressed dismay over the incident and assured officers of the force’s full support in situations where their rights are violated.
The assailant, 47-year-old Oluwaseun Jacobs, a cobbler based in Ajah, has been arrested, arraigned in court on a three-count charge, and remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending further legal proceedings.

In a statement by police spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP emphasized that the safety of officers is paramount and reiterated that the NPF will not tolerate any form of assault on its officers, ensuring that those responsible face the full wrath of the law.
The police force calls on citizens to respect the role of the Nigeria Police in maintaining law and order, cooperate, and support the process in creating a safer and more secure society for all.
The incident occurred at Chevron Roundabout, Lekki, Lagos State, and the matter has been adjourned to July 8, 2024, for hearing. The force assures the public that it remains steadfast in its mission to protect lives and property and uphold justice and the rule of law.
