Emir Bayero, Police Rescue NNPP Lawmaker from Mob Attack in Kano

A lawmaker in Kano State, Abdul-Majid Umar, was attacked by a mob at an event attended by Emir Aminu Ado-Bayero.

Umar, a member of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), was beaten up by constituents in the Goron Dutse area, who accused him of supporting a bill to dethrone the emir.

The attack occurred after Umar left the venue, but he was rescued by the emir and police. According to Umar, the emir intervened and stopped his guards from hitting him, and he was able to escape into a police vehicle.

Two of his supporters were injured in the incident.

The Kano emirate tussle began after lawmakers repealed the State Emirate Council Law 2019, which created four new emirates. The Emir Bayero’s media aide denied that the attackers were part of the emir’s entourage, stating that they were unarmed supporters.”
