CNS Ogalla Tasks Newly Promoted Naval Personnel to Uphold Discipline, Sacrifice
The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has charged newly decorated Naval Warrant Officers to uphold discipline and devotion to the service of the Nigerian Navy.
Ogalla made the charge today while decorating 19 Senior Non-Commissioned Officers with their new ranks on Monday in Abuja.
PRNigeria reports that the personnel were recently promoted to Master Warrant Officer, which is the apex rank in the rating cadre.
Represented by the Nigerian Navy Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan, said the elevation of the officers to the NWO was in recognition of their discipline, commitment, and dedication to duty.
He stated that this part of the military tradition and practices to promote personnel who have qualified and met the relevant criteria, as expected by the service, for their hard work and commitment.
He charged them to sacrifice for their nation and the Nigerian Navy, especially during this period of a very challenging security situation in the maritime environment.
His words: “Promotion, first of all, comes from God. So, you should see it as an act of God that He has counted you worthy among your colleagues with whom you started.

“You know that many of them might have fallen along the way, and even those who are still in service, not all of them were counted worthy to be elevated to this particular enviable rank. It is because of your hard work, commitment, dedication to duty, and, more importantly, your unblemished record.
“You have played key roles before, and now you have been called upon to play even more important roles, because when you are deployed, some of you will find yourselves in the Niger Delta.”
He urged them to maintain the confidence placed in them, as indiscipline would not have earned them promotion. He added that as they are promoted, they should live by example and finish their service well.
The Naval Chief commended the wives of the personnels for their support, which enabled them to attain this level, and urged them to continue providing support in the course of their duties.
Speaking on behalf of the decorated personnel, Philip Shishi expressed gratitude to God and the CNS for finding them worthy of this promotion.
He added that the new ranks had bestowed upon them the prestigious title of the ‘Admirals of the Lower Deck’.
He assured their readiness to uphold the sanctity of their new ranks, loyalty, and dedication towards actualizing the vision of the navy boss, while appreciating their families for their patience, understanding, and encouragement.
