NIS Suspends Immigration Officer over Misconduct at Airport
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has swiftly responded to a viral video showing one of its officers soliciting a bribe from a traveler at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

The officer, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Immigration II OKPRAVERO C. UFUOMA, has been indefinitely suspended pending disciplinary procedures. The NIS strongly condemns the misconduct, emphasizing that it contradicts the service’s values and ethics of professionalism.
In a statement, Comptroller General KN NANDAP assured the public that the NIS is committed to removing corrupt elements within its ranks, in line with its Zero-Tolerance for Corruption policy. The service is also installing electronic gates (e-gates) at all international airports to facilitate smoother travel and prevent incidents like this.
The NIS reaffirms its dedication to excellence in service delivery, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
