HURIWA Praises Defense Ministry’s Milestones in Indigenous Arms Production
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has praised Nigeria’s Defense Ministry’s strides in indigenous arms production, viewing it as a testament to Nigeria’s potential and promise on the global stage.
In a press statement, HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, noted that Nigeria, once heavily reliant on foreign military equipment, is now emerging as a hub for high-tech military hardware in Africa.
The association highlighted the significant progress made by the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), under the current leadership in Defence Ministry.

This transformation is largely due to the revitalization of DICON, which has expanded its capabilities and is now producing advanced military hardware that is being sought by several African nations.
The association applauded the visionary leadership that has propelled DICON to its current status, observing that the organization’s growing reputation as a reliable defense manufacturer represents a significant boost to Nigeria’s economy. HURIWA also recognized the recent enactment of the DICON Act 2023 as a pivotal development in Nigeria’s pursuit of self-reliance in defense production.
Huriwa also called on Northern political elites to heed the advice of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, by pledging unwavering loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. This call comes amidst growing concerns over the insecurity in the Northern region and the recent nationwide “End Bad Governance” protests, which featured demands for military intervention, particularly from the North.
