NIPR Endorses PRNigeria‘s Book on Impactful PR in Customs Management

A book titled, “Impactful Public Relations in Customs Management: The CG Wale Adeniyi Example,” on Tuesday, was unveiled to stakeholders in the nation’s public relations and media industry.

The book, which is a comprehensive guide to effective public relations strategies in the Nigeria Customs management sector, was published by the Image Merchants Promotion, IMPR, Limited, publishers of PRNigeria and Spokesperson Digest.

It was unveiled by the President and Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, Governing Council, Dr. Ike Neliaku, during the 2nd Economic Confidential Lecture, in Abuja, today.

The authors: Mr. Kabir Abdulsalam and Maryam Na’Allah, are staff writers of PRNigeria and Spokesperson’s digest.

Neliaku, in a goodwill message, observed that the book is a seminal work that showcases the transformative power of public relations as a leadership tool in organisations and showcases its application in the leadership of the Nigeria Customs.

“Through twelve well-structured, highly impactful chapters and an inspiring end note, the authors delve into the very significant elements of public relations functions and campaigns, dealing with topical areas as, media relations, event management, crisis communication, lobbying, corporate social responsibility, reputation management, publications, employment relations, media monitoring, and social media engagement, among other tools. These represent a collection of the essentials in public relations,” he said.

The NIPR President instantly granted an approval for the newly launched book to be among the literary materials for studies at their Public Relations and Leadership Academy, which will begin academic activities next month in Nasarawa State. “Also, this book will be among the materials to be studied at the first-ever Public Relations university in the world floated by NIPR, which will begin operation in 2026”.

Reviewing the book, Prof. Okey Okechukwu, a Fellow of the NIPR and seasoned policy analyst, described CGC Adeniyi as a distinguished NCS officer, saying, “Impactful Public Relations in Customs Management,” by Kabir Abdulsalam and Maryam Na’Allah is truly significant.

Prof. Okechukwu, who was represented by the Northern Regional Editor of The Nation newspaper, Mallam Yusuf Ali, said: “Mr. Wale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General (CG) of Customs, is a testament to the ‘God Factor’. This concept is central to the book we are reviewing, which emphasizes the significance of divine influence in our lives. The book’s second key message is that our attitude determines our altitude.

“Mr. Adeniyi has dedicated his life to refining and reshaping the Customs Service, ever mindful that one day, he might occupy this seat. This book is an engaging account of how impactful public relations and customs management intersect, offering valuable lessons for all”.

According to him, the book also emphasizes the significance of stakeholder engagement and its role in trust-building and community engagement.

“Mr. Adeniyi’s method of stakeholder engagement became a crucial tool for balancing national security with trade facilitation, highlighting his capacity for strategic engagement while managing a sensitive duty post.

“Equally, this book is about more than just Mr. Adeniyi’s leadership; it’s about managing an organization through change, even when the terrain is fraught with challenges. The author’s narratives and conclusions offer credible resources for public relations students and practitioners,” Prof. Okechukwu said.

Responding, Maryam Na’Allah, one of the book’s co-authors, said their “Impactful Public Relations in Customs Management,” is an effective guide to public relations, inspired by the extraordinary career of CGC Adeniyi. “His legacy as the longest-serving public relations officer and current Comptroller of Customs has provided us with a wealth of knowledge and experience to share.

“Our book provides valuable insights and practical tips for PR professionals, covering principles of PR such as social media, media relations, and effective communication. Each chapter is crafted to offer real-world applications and effective techniques drawn from Adeniyi’s distinguished career,” she said.

The Chairman of Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), Major General Chris Olukolade describe the book as a well researched case study on one of the agency performing exceedingly well in public relations and crisis management.

The spokespersons of the Department of State Services (Dr. Peter Afunanya), Defence Headquarters (Brigadier General Tukur Gusau), Nigerian Air Force (Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet), Force PRO (ACP Olumuwiya Adejobi), Chairman of Arewa Economic Forum (Ibrahim Shehu Dandakata) and the Chairman, Board of IMPR Directors (Dr. Sule Ya’u Sule), among other distinguished guests attended the auspicious event.
