Nigerian Military Vows to End Payment of Levies to Bandits

The military high command has said that bandits are now finding it difficult to collect levies from civilians, which is a result of the troops’ fight against terrorism and banditry in the North West Zone.

This development comes as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has assured that the notorious terrorist and bandit leader, Bello Turji, will be captured soon.

Musa described Turji as a “deranged individual” who relies on support from some community members to operate.

Speaking at a media briefing, Musa noted that the military will address the issue of levies imposed by Turji and other bandits.

He urged communities to support the military and security agencies to protect them and defeat the adversaries.

Musa compared the hunt for Turji to the search for Osama Bin Laden, while emphasizing the military efforts to brought them to justice.

He assured Nigerians that the armed forces will continue to lead efforts to rid the country of security threats, citing progress in the North East, North Central, and South East regions.

CDS said “Please do not give them any support. Do not give them information on the movement of troops because this is what is happening. Most of the areas where this thing is continuing is because we have informants within the communities.”
