CAS Tours Sokoto, Expresses Optimism in Air Operations

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has expressed confidence in the efforts undertaken by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other security agencies to improve the safety of lives and properties in Sokoto State. He also expressed solidarity with the government and people of Sokoto in light of recent security challenges and assured of NAF’s commitment to continually bolster security efforts as situations demand going forward.

The CAS made these statements during a courtesy call at the Sokoto State Government House, where he was received by the Deputy Governor His Excellency Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir, on behalf of His Excellency Governor Ahmed Aliyu, on Friday, 13th September 2024. This visit was part of his itinerary during an operational tour of the NAF 119 Composite Group (CG) stationed in the State.

Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar reiterated the strategic importance of the 119 CG in maintaining security within the North-West region. The CAS also conveyed his condolences for the unfortunate killing of the Emir of Gobir by bandits and pledged intensified efforts to rid the region of criminal elements. He further identified key areas of collaboration between the State and the NAF to enhance the operational capabilities of the NAF in the Sokoto State. The CAS emphasized that the NAF remains fully committed to supporting the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry across the country, particularly in the North-West region. He reiterated the NAF’s dedication to collaborating closely with state governments and other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.

In his response, the Deputy Governor expressed delight over the visit of the CAS and his entourage. He added that the State Government and the entire people of the State recognize the value and contributions of the NAF to ongoing internal security operations in the State. He, therefore, assured the CAS that Sokoto State Government would provide all necessary support to ensure the operational efficiency of the NAF in the State.

At the 119 CG, the CAS conducted a thorough assessment of the Unit’s ongoing developmental projects, operational readiness, and personnel welfare. He received a detailed briefing from the Unit’s Commander and toured key facilities, including the 119 CG Headquarters. The CAS commended the personnel for their contributions to NAF operations and revealed plans to enhance air operations in the region with the deployment of additional air assets. The visit was concluded with a robust Interactive Session with the personnel of the Unit.
