Flood: General Musa Leads Service Chiefs to Borno, Promises Support
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has pledged military support to Borno State following the recent devastating flood.
Musa, accompanied by top military officers, visited Maiduguri on Thursday to commiserate with the government and people of Borno.
A statement by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, in Abuja, said during the visit to Gov. Babagana Zulum, the CDS said that flooding was unpredictable, making it difficult to mitigate and prayed that such incidence would never occur again.
He assured the governor the armed forces would continue to support him in addressing all issues that might arise as a result of the flooding.
Response, Zulum expressed appreciation to the military for being active in the rescue operations and rendering humanitarian services to mitigate the impact of the flooding.
He also thanked the service chiefs for personally visiting the state to sympathise with them.
“Without the support of the Military, by now we would have lost more lives”.
“I have asked the President when he visited to convey Borno State’s deepest gratitude to the military for all they have done during this critical period,” he said.
Zulum reiterated that insecurity in the state had improved by over 90 per cent, adding that peace had gradually returned to Borno.

At the Shehu of Borno’s Palace, the defence chief told the monarch, Alhaji Abubakar Garba, that the military chiefs were in the state to offer prayers for the repose of the departed and commesurate with those who lost their means of livelihood.
Musa thanked the Shehu for his fatherly prayers and assured the monarch of the commitment of the military to restoring peace to the state.
Responding, the ml arch thanked the CDS and service chiefs for doing so much for the state.
According to him, the theater Commander and his team were unrelenting in providing assistance to the victims of the flooding.
While addressing troops of Operation Hadin Kai, the defence chief thanked the troops for their prompt response and rescue operations during the flooding.
According to him , it is not an easy task but more needs to be done to assist the state government in getting out of the aftermath of the flood.
He also charged the troops not to be distracted in performing their primary duties and conveyed the special greetings from President Bola Tinubu for their bravery.
The CDS also appealed for troops to be more focused and committed to diminishing the capabilities of criminals while pledging to provide all necessary equipment to execute their tasks.
He promised to look at the welfare needs of the troops in order to meet up with changing demands.
