Nigerian Army Rescues 40 Hostages, Eliminates Eight Terrorists in Coordinated Operations

In a significant offensive against terrorism, the Nigerian Army has reported the successful neutralization of eight terrorists and the rescue of 40 hostages during a series of operations across various states. These actions reflect ongoing efforts to combat terror and disrupt the activities of armed groups operating in the region.

On September 28, 2024, troops in Nasarawa State conducted a stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road, following leads from credible intelligence. This operation led to the arrest of a firearms courier, who was found with 303 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition concealed in a bag. The suspect and his vehicle have been taken into custody, and investigations are underway to identify potential accomplices.

Further military actions took place in Kaduna State, where troops executed precise strikes in the forests surrounding Danmari and Saulawa villages, resulting in the elimination of one terrorist. In the Kachia Local Government Area, two additional terrorists were also neutralized, with troops recovering a locally made firearm, 11 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the insurgents.

In Borno State, encounters with fleeing terrorists yielded substantial recoveries, including two AK-47 rifles and over 110 rounds of ammunition at Faayijiwa Fandanari village. Troops were able to seize these firearms after the terrorists fled, outmatched by the army’s firepower. Further operations in the Gwoza Local Government Area led to the elimination of three terrorists near Ashigashiya village. Additionally, troops intercepted a convoy believed to be transporting supplies to terrorist camps and seized three vehicles loaded with food and N2,400 in cash.

Perhaps the most notable success came in Kukawa Local Government Area, where troops acted on intelligence to intercept terrorists who were relocating 38 hostages, including 24 children. The abductors fled upon the troops’ arrival, allowing the hostages to be safely rescued.

In Yobe State, troops ambushed a group of terrorists in Sasawa village, neutralizing one and recovering an AK-47 rifle along with a motorcycle intended for operations against civilians.

The Chief of Army Staff praised the soldiers for their courage and unwavering commitment to restoring peace in the affected regions. He also acknowledged the vital role that local communities play in providing actionable intelligence, which has been instrumental in these operations. The Nigerian Army reaffirms its commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of Nigerian citizens.
