As Nigeria marks its 64th independence anniversary today, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, has extended heartfelt greetings to citizens while urging a collective reflection on the nation’s challenges and potential.
In a statement issued to commemorate the occasion, Senator Umar acknowledged that Nigeria is currently facing one of its most significant trials since gaining independence. Senator Umar called for unity across all levels of government as the nation strives for renewal and improved living conditions for its citizens. He urged President Ahmed Tinubu and other federal leaders to deeply reflect on the current hardships faced by the populace, while also noting some positive outcomes from recent government initiatives. “Our priority must be to enhance the purchasing power of the average Nigerian and improve access to vital services,” he said.
Highlighting ongoing insecurity as a pressing concern that exacerbates poverty and undermines living standards, Umar expressed optimism that with collective efforts and unwavering support for security personnel, the nation can overcome these issues.
