Northern youth kick against linking of Sen Buba to banditry, urges DSS’s intervention
The Northern Youth Assembly (Majalisar Matasan Arewa) has condemned recent allegations linking Senator Shehu Buba Umar to banditry, which they attribute to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadeer.
The Assembly described the accusations as a politically motivated attempt to undermine the Senator’s reputation.
In a press statement made available to journalists today, the Assembly accused Governor Mohammed of engaging in a “public political war” against Senator Buba, claiming that the Governor has made repeated attempts to discredit him.
This comes in the wake of the Governor’s comments during local government election campaigns, where he reportedly vowed to damage the Senator’s political standing.
Senator Buba, representing Bauchi South, has been vocal in demanding accountability from the Governor regarding state resources and has previously challenged him to account for federal palliatives intended for the people of Bauchi.

The Assembly highlighted Senator Buba’s contributions to various sectors, including education, healthcare, and humanitarian services, positioning him as a significant political figure in the state.
The Assembly expressed concern over the Governor’s threats against traditional councils and noted a pattern of political attacks aimed at Senator Buba, which they interpreted as a sign of the Governor’s waning political relevance. They accused the state government of mismanagement and nepotism, alleging that it has become a “family enterprise” favoring the Governor’s allies.
Furthermore, the Assembly urged law enforcement agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), to handle the allegations against Senator Buba with caution, citing his role as the chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence. They asserted that it is implausible for a prominent senator dedicated to national security to engage with bandits.
In light of the allegations, the Assembly called for an urgent investigation into the governance of Bala Mohammed, particularly regarding the awarding of state contracts and financial management.
“We stand ready to defend the integrity of Senator Shehu Buba Umar against these unfounded allegations,” the statement concluded, emphasizing the Assembly’s commitment to uphold the Senator’s reputation and ensure accountability in governance.
