Troops gun down bandits at point of ransom collection, rescue captives in Kaduna

Soldiers have gunned down two bandits while attempting to collect N1.5 million ransom for the four abducted victims at Mai-Iddo village in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.

It was learnt that the four captives, comprising three females and a child, who were abducted at a farm last week were rescued by the troops.

A community leader from the area confirmed the incident with our reporter by telephone on Tuesday.

He said the two bandits were killed after their leader ordered them to go to a location, where a relation of the abducted victims was expected to drop the ransom.

He said, “The arrangements had been concluded with the troops with the man who will be taking the ransom to them and a vigilante. On getting to the particular location, the troops took cover.

‘’As two of the bandits came out to pick the ransom, the troops opened fire at them and killed the two of them instantly.”

He said the abducted victims were rescued by the troops and reunited with their families.

As at the time of filing the report, the spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Hassan Mansur, was yet to pick up calls or reply to text messages sent to him on the incident.
