NIS Enhances Border Security in Southwest

In a bid to strengthen border security and improve migration management, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), K.N. Nandap, has extended her border assessment tour to Lagos and Ogun States in Southwest Nigeria.

This tour is part of a fact-finding and sensitization mission aimed at reinforcing the shared responsibility of securing Nigeria’s extensive borders. During her visit, Nandap underscored the importance of concerted efforts among various stakeholders to combat trans-border crime effectively.

In Lagos, the Comptroller General engaged with several key figures, including the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Discussions primarily focused on improving operational efficiencies for NIS personnel in the state, with the Governor expressing his support for the Service’s initiatives and praising Nandap’s leadership.

At strategic locations such as the Seme Border and the commands in Lagos and Ogun States, Nandap informed officers about new immigration initiatives aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s border security infrastructure. She reiterated her commitment to the welfare and professional development of officers, urging them to uphold high standards of professionalism in their duties.

The Comptroller General also convened a joint security meeting with sister agencies to enhance collaboration in intelligence sharing. She emphasized the critical role that border communities play in supporting security initiatives.

The tour concluded in Ogun State, where Nandap met with traditional rulers, including HRM Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo III, Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, and HRM Oba Prof. Saka Adeola Matemilola, Olowu of Owu Kingdom. She further discussed logistical support and land provision for constructing barracks with Ogun State officials, represented by Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

The Nigeria Immigration Service reiterated its commitment to implementing digital strategies aimed at enhancing border governance and national security, as it continues to evolve in response to the complex challenges of migration and border control.
