Ganduje: The Political Colossus Expanding APC’s Dominance

Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje’s ascension as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is not just a change of leadership—it is a revolution in Nigeria’s political dynamics. In a short span, Ganduje has showcased exceptional leadership, deft political maneuvering, and an unyielding commitment to consolidating the APC’s dominance.

His strategies and decisions have redefined the party’s trajectory, making it a formidable force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Triumphs in Off-Cycle Elections

Under Ganduje’s leadership, the APC has recorded a string of impressive victories. The five off-cycle elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi, Edo, and Ondo states tested the party’s strength and strategy. Remarkably, the APC emerged victorious in four of these contests, reinforcing its status as a dominant national party.

Ondo State: The APC candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, delivered a landslide victory. He secured 366,781 votes, decisively defeating Ajayi Agboola of the PDP, who managed only 117,845 votes. Aiyedatiwa’s win cemented the APC’s stronghold in the state.

Edo State: Despite initial predictions favoring the PDP, the APC candidate, Monday Okpebholo, defied the odds. He triumphed over Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, challenging the influence of Governor Godwin Obaseki and marking a significant victory in a traditionally PDP-leaning state.

Kogi State: The APC continued its winning streak with Governor Usman Ododo securing an overwhelming 446,237 votes. He left his closest rival, Murtala Yakubu of the SDP, far behind with 259,052 votes, while Senator Dino Melaye of the PDP lagged with just 46,362 votes.

Imo State: In a historic win, Governor Hope Uzodinma of the APC swept all 27 local government areas. He garnered an impressive 540,308 votes, leaving PDP’s Samuel Anyanwu and Labour Party’s Athan Achonu trailing with 71,503 and 64,081 votes, respectively.

The only setback for the APC occurred in Bayelsa State. Douye Diri of the PDP retained his governorship with 175,196 votes, defeating Timipre Sylva of the APC, who managed 110,108 votes.

The Ganduje Factor

The APC’s remarkable performance in these elections was no accident. It was the result of Ganduje’s astute leadership and strategic approach.

Ganduje has proven himself a master at conflict resolution. Party unity is crucial for electoral success, and Ganduje has prioritized this in his leadership.

In Edo State, a dispute arose when Denis Idahosa was initially declared the party’s flagbearer. A rerun primary eventually produced Monday Okpebholo as the candidate. Ganduje intervened swiftly, reconciling the factions and appointing Idahosa as Okpebholo’s deputy. This move united the party, ensuring a smooth campaign and eventual victory.

Similarly, in Ondo State, Ganduje played a key role in addressing grievances among aspirants after the primaries. His efforts brought aggrieved members together, solidifying the party’s strength ahead of the election.

Expanding Political Influence

Ganduje has also focused on extending the APC’s influence into previously challenging regions. By fostering inclusivity and building alliances, he has transformed the party into a truly national entity. Victories in states like Imo and Edo, which were once opposition strongholds, underscore the success of this approach.

Strengthening Collaboration

Under Ganduje, the APC has cultivated a culture of collaboration between the party’s national leadership and state governors. This synergy was evident in the campaigns for the Ondo and Edo elections, where several APC governors actively participated. Their involvement not only boosted the party’s chances but also demonstrated a unified front that resonated with voters.

A Warning to the Opposition

The APC’s resurgence under Ganduje poses a significant challenge to opposition parties. With recent victories, Ganduje has set his sights on reclaiming states like Osun and Anambra. The opposition must now reassess its strategies and prepare for tougher battles ahead. Failure to adapt could lead to further losses and an even stronger APC.

A Visionary Leader

Dr. Ganduje’s leadership has been transformative. His ability to resolve conflicts, expand the APC’s reach, and foster collaboration has redefined the party’s identity. He has demonstrated that politics is not just about winning elections but also about building a sustainable and inclusive structure.

As the APC continues to dominate Nigeria’s political landscape, Ganduje’s influence will remain pivotal. His strategic brilliance and unwavering focus have set the stage for a new era in Nigerian politics. The question now is whether the opposition can rise to the challenge or cede more ground to the Ganduje-led APC.
