Nigeria Customs Service Denies Rumors of Salary Increase

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed a recent social media claim suggesting that the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, announced a 100% salary increase for all officers and personnel during a press conference on November 21, 2024.

In an official statement by the customs spokesperson, CSC Abdullahi Maiwada, stated that the NCS clarified that the information circulating online is false and did not originate from the Service or any of its authorized representatives. They emphasized that no such press conference took place and that the welfare of their personnel remains a priority for the current management.

The statement highlighted that the leadership of the NCS, under Adeniyi, is committed to the welfare and professional development of its officers, with any initiatives being based on thorough consultations and established procedures.

The NCS urged the public, as well as its officers and stakeholders, to ignore the misleading report. It reiterated its focus on its core mission to secure Nigeria’s borders, facilitate legitimate trade, and generate revenue for national development.

To ensure the accuracy of information, the NCS advised the public to rely on verified communication channels, including their official website and social media platforms. The management also expressed appreciation for the public’s continued support and understanding, promising to keep personnel informed of any relevant developments in a transparent manner.
