Nigeria Takes Center Stage in Public Relations at the World PR Forum in Bali

Nigeria has emerged as a leader in public relations, showcasing its rich expertise at the World PR Forum held in Bali, Indonesia. The event brought together a diverse delegation from Nigeria, which made significant presentations on the global stage.

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and Image Merchants Promotion Limited, the publisher of PRNigeria and Spokesperson’s Digest, were also honored with Certificates of Commendation as shortlisted finalists for the prestigious World PR and Communication Awards 2024.

Leading the Nigerian delegation was the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mallam Mohammed Idris Malagi, who delivered a keynote address highlighting the vital role of public relations in shaping Nigeria’s global identity. During his speech, he underscored the importance of establishing a unified national narrative that reflects the country’s rich cultural diversity, entrepreneurial spirit, and resilience.

Minister Idris lauded NIPR for its groundbreaking initiatives, including the establishment of the world’s first University of Public Relations under the leadership of Dr. Ike Neliaku. He expressed confidence that Nigeria’s collaborative approach and innovative public relations strategies could serve as a model for other nations around the globe.

The Nigerian delegation also featured prominent figures, including Dr. Ike Neliaku, President of NIPR; Ibietan Omoniyi, Secretary General of the African Public Relations Association (APRA); and Dr. Wole Ademelokun, a renowned communication scholar. They actively participated as speakers and panelists, sharing insights on effective communication practices.

In his presentation, APRA President Arik Karani highlighted the significance of collaboration, cultural understanding, and technology in contemporary communication. He emphasized the need to leverage digital tools for teamwork and project management, promoting a growth mindset, and incorporating empathy and cultural sensitivity into communication strategies.

Prof. Justin Green, President of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communications Management, opened the forum with remarks on the critical importance of ethical communication in combating misinformation and navigating the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence. He also revealed the Alliance’s commitment to professional development and details about global research initiatives, including the upcoming 2024 PR and Communications Trends Report, while underscoring education as the cornerstone of future progress in the profession.

Additionally, Boy Kelana Soebroto, President of the Indonesian Public Relations Association (Perhumas), emphasized the collective responsibility of PR professionals to uphold transparency and build trust during this era of technological transformation.

Held under the theme “Purposeful Influence for the Common Good,” the World Public Relations Forum gathered leading communication professionals from around the world to discuss the critical challenges and opportunities facing modern communication.

As a confluence of global PR leaders, the forum aimed to explore the evolving role of public relations in addressing societal challenges and advancing sustainable development. Nigeria’s strong presence served not only to enhance its international image but also to contribute valuable insights to the global discourse on effective communication.
